Crabtreecare Dental News
This is our regular Newsletter here on the website to keep you up-dated with developments in our dental practice and other news and features that we feel might benefit you.
Please note that we are the Crabtree Road Dental Practice and that we are not associated with Crabtree Dental Care Ltd. which will be moving shortly.
REST ASSURED THAT EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT A PATIENT OF MIKE POWELL OR DAVID ARMSTRONG THAT YOU ARE WELCOME TO STAY AT CRABTREE ROAD FOR YOUR FUTURE DENTAL TREATMENT.
Dentist Leaving
As from June 30th 2012 Mrs Pancic will no longer be treating patients at the Crabtree Road Dental Practice nor will she be part of our team. We are sad to see her go but she has decided that she needs to set up her own practice and I have reluctantly agreed that she may do so in Langley Green. She will be taking her nurse Deborah Martin with her and all of us here at Crabtree Road wish her well and happiness for the future. From January 1st Jessica has decided that she no longer requires the services of the hygienists and she will be carrying out this treatment herself.
Kellie Boles BDS will be replacing Mrs Pancic as soon as there is an available surgery.
REST ASSURED THAT YOU MAY REMAIN AS A PATIENT AT CRABTEE ROAD IF YOU SO WISH
New patients welcome
As many of our patients are well aware we have the services of three very competent hygienists. Myself, David Armstrong and our new associate Kellie, are keen that we continue to provide a comprehensive preventive practice to ensure that all our patients are thoroughly checked for dental diseases. gum conditions and oral cancers. We will continue to look after your dental health to the best of our ability. We strongly believe that prevention is better than cure.
Silver amalgam fillings and white fillings
Many people now do not wish to have silver amalgam fillings in their mouth. Wherever possible the practice will try to place white restorations. Tooth coloured restorations are far more time consuming so expect to pay more for the time taken. On back teeth where the restoration is large it may be appropriate to construct a white tooth coloured inlay, made by one of our laboratories.
If a white filling is not possible we will be pleased to discuss any alternatives that may be available.
Dental Radiography
At Crabtree Road we follow nationally agreed guidelines issued by the Health and safety Execuitive (HSE)and the National Imnstitute for Clinical Excellnece (NICE). These guidelines help us to decide the relevant requirements for the taking of dental radiographs and their frequency. By installing the Kodak Digital radiography system we have managed to achieve the lowest practicable doses of radiation possible to our patients (ALARP). Digital Radiographs while lowering the radiation doses allows us to view these x-rays within seconds of them being taken. Generally we will only take radiographs where absolutely necessary.
Often we will take "two bitewings" one on each side of the mouth. These require the use of a fairly large sensor and some patients do find them difficult to tolerate. We do have a small sensor avauable as well but this is not particularly useful for diagnostic puprposes and we usually only use this on children or on adults with very small mouths.
These X-rays are taken to view the inaccessible areas to direct vision in order to ascertain whether decay is present, to view calculus that may be between the teeth and to give us some idea about current bone levels and the general oral condition. Digital radiographs are more bulky than coventional film but their other advantages outweigh this problem. If you wish to know more why not ask us at your next visit.
We hope that this will enhance our diagnostic skills and be of great benefit to our patients in helping them understand their treatment requirements.
The practice is fully computerised and in February we will be upgrading our Carestream system which we hope will improve our efficiency and speed up a rapidly slowing system. All our backups are saved offsite by Kodak.
