  In an Emergency

What to do

If you have a problem during surgery hours, please telephone the practice immediately and we will ensure that you are offered an appointment on a priority basis. Please make it clear that the matter is not routine and we will do our utmost to attend to you at the earliest opportunity. If your usual dentist is very busy or absent, with your consent we will book you in with their colleague. Many of the out of hours problems that patients experience are associated with lost or chipped fillings and crowns. Usually there is no need to panic and telephoning the surgery for an appointment as soon as it opens will usually be all that is required. Mild discomfort can usually be controlled by taking the recommended doses of your usual pain killers. Unfortunately there is no way that dentures can be repaired out side normal hours as they require the services of our technicians.

Please follow our guidance for emergency arrangements during evenings and week-ends by calling our practice and following our answerphone instructions.

Mike Powell can generally be reached via his mobile on 07815 822073 . Please leave a message when this is unanswered.

Emergency times

Each day we set aside times to deal with our regular patients should an emergency arise. If you have an emergency we will try to appoint you into one of these slots. While we will always try to be as accommodating as possible please understand that it may not always be possible to see you at the specific time that you would like. During emergency treatment slots we may have to carry out treatment that will solve the immediate problem but will not always be able to finish this treatment.

Dental Emergencies

If you have severe pain, swelling which is making swallowing or breathing difficulty, or if you have suffered trauma please contact your local Accident and Emergency Department immediately.

Post-operative difficulties

One of the most common dental emergencies folowing treatment is bleeding following an extraction. Should this occur telephone the practice or our out-of-hours emergency services for advice and bite firmly over the wound on a clean white handkerchief.
